The nine months before Junior arrives can seem to last nine years for excited, expectant parents. A thoughtful gift would let them know you share their excitement. The following ideas were conceived to help you fill the expectations of parents-to-be.

Present a photography studio gift certificate in a baby picture frame or photo album.

For a gift that is sure to amuse many of today's parents-to-be, rummage through a secondhand bookstore to find an old book on child development, discipline, or parenting.

Pickles 'n' ice cream, or any other unusual food combinations that appeal to the mother-to-be, make fun gifts.

Books on parenting and child development are pertinent gifts for expectant moms and dads.

Arrange a getaway for the expectant couple. Note: This gift would also be much appreciated after the baby's birth, but should then include an offer to babysit.

Contract with a cleaning service to help ready the house or apartment for Baby's arrival.

Every new mom—and dad—needs a sturdy, comfortable rocking chair. To ensure a perfect fit, take the expectant parents to the furniture store to "try on" rocking chairs. Or find a furniture company or craftsman that will make an ergonomically correct custom rocker.

Pay for tuition to a birthing class or a refresher course.

Help paint, wallpaper, or furnish the nursery in preparation for baby's arrival.

If you can sew, offer to make curtains or crib quilts for the nursery or bibs and special clothing for the baby. The mom-to-be might also appreciate your offer to make a new outfit or two for her.

Give a hospital bag filled with items to celebrate the new baby's arrival. Include high-speed film with which to record the birth, a stopwatch with which to time contractions, a supply of writing paper and stamps, a pen, addresses and telephone numbers of those to be notified, a long-distance calling card and/or a roll of quarters for the pay phone, and—of course—nonalcoholic champagne.

Almost every mother-to-be counts the days to her due date! A Pregnancy Time Countdown Clock, www.countdownclocks.com, is a fun way to help her keep track of the days and minutes 'til the special event. Countdown Clocks are also available for weddings, graduations, retirement, and other milestones.
